Fundraising Activities for 2022-23 School Year

The EPFA Fundraising Committee worked hard last school year to plan the fundraising activities for this school year. Some of the feedback we received last year was that families would like to know an overall plan of fundraisers and also get involved.

Please CLICK HERE for the Fundraisers Planned for 2022-23. If you want to put your name on the list to help or get involved with the Fundraising Committee, please TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF. If you want to help with one event or you want to join the Fundraising Committee, we'd be happy to have you!

Welcome and ๆฌข่ฟŽ to the new Elmwood Families!

The ESC/EPFA would like to extend a huge and warm welcome to all the new Elmwood families. We are excited to include the new Mandarin program families along with the Sciences and ISP program families - this is going to be an exciting year and we look forward to including all families in our ESC/EPFA activities. If you have any suggestions on how we can be more inclusive, please feel free to reach out to info@supportingelmwoodschool.org - we are happy to learn and grow!

Nurture our Naturescape!

The Naturescape is a place that has been loved by Elmwood as an outdoor classroom and learning space. Over the years, it has had some additions and maintenance but it is time for an overhaul to ensure it works for all students at Elmwood. Thanks to the incredible donation of time and skill by an Elmwood parent, Katharina Kafka, we have a plan in place.

This plan will blend science, First Nations, Metis, Inuit perspectives and our love of environment to our own backyard. The updated Naturescape will feature a teepee, grassy open area, plants that will show changes in Spring and Fall, composters, and a water feature creekbed.

There will be many curricular connections made by each class but here are just a few:

Kindergarten - Play Based Learning, Exploring Environment and Community, Personal and Social Responsibility
Grade 1 - Seasonal Changes, Needs of Plants and Animals, Colours, Senses, Community
Grade 2 - Small Crawling and Flying Animals, Hot and Cold Temperatures, Boats and Buoyancy, Exploring Liquids, Prairie
Grade 3 - Rocks and Minerals, Testing and Design, Hearing and Sound, Animal Life Cycles, Global Citizenship, Quality of Life
Grade 4 - Waste in Our World, Light and Shadows, Plant Growth and Changes, Wheels and Levers, Alberta
Grade 5 - Wetlands, Weather, Canadian landscape and Indigenous Peoples
Grade 6 - Trees and Forests, Air and Aerodynamics, Crime and Investigation

About Elmwood School

Elmwood School is a diverse school offering programming options: Sciences, Individual Support Program, and Chinese Bilingual.

The Sciences Program at Elmwood School offers science inquiry programming which helps students build academic skills through investigation and collaborative learning. Students use critical and creative thinking to explore their passions and find innovative solutions to in-depth, real-life challenges. Kindergarten to Grade 6 students receive instruction in all subject areas with an emphasis on sciences.

We are very excited to add the Chinese Bilingual Program to Elmwood School starting in the 2022-2023 school year. The program is designed to provide children an opportunity to learn the Chinese language, in addition to the regular curriculum, and to experience the richness of both western and eastern cultures. Registration for next year begins in February 2023.

Elmwood School also offers an Individual Support Program that supports students with severe to profound developmental disabilities in grades 1-6. Elmwood's inclusive school community provides numerous opportunities for all students to interact with one another - through classroom activities, buddy groups, school-wide assemblies, and special events.
